I'm looking to get my hands on a StopLok key - the magnetic one that employees of the retail giants like Target, Walmart, etc. use to unlock StopLok anti-theft devices (the pegboard/slatwall racks that lock at the end of the hook) and Spider Wire anti-theft devices (the ones that wrap around merchandise and sound an alarm if cut). I'd be happy to pay a hefty sum for one of you model employees out there to swipe one from the break room and send it my way.
PM me if you have one/think you might be able to get your hands on one.

Nah I can tell you how get around it, If you want to donate to my address thats cool, but Really all you need is a strong magnet, And place it over the spider wrap where the 2 indentions are and press the end.

I haven't tried the whole magnet thing with the Spider Wire but I definitely will now. I'm a little nervous to try the Spider Wire because I'd hate to be that douche bag that got busted for sounding the alarm on them. There's a video surveillance system sitting at my local Walmart that's just been begging me to take it home with me. I *have* tried the magnets on the locking slatwall/pegboard racks. Those are what I'm more interested in to be honest. I watched a video on YouTube where a guy used 1/4"x1/4"x1/2" neodymium magnets to imitate the key itself and he showed it opening the racks right in a Walmart, so I bought some of the same magnets and tried it out for myself with no success. At first I thought that maybe I had the magnetic polarity wrong so I tried different combinations of polarity. After that I thought that maybe my magnets weren't strong enough because I had them stuck to a piece of metal and it was decreasing the strength of the N42 magnets considerably, so I affixed a few pairs to pieces of plastic, again with no success.
Anyways, Shroom, I really have no idea what the price would be for one. I've literally never seen one being sold, anywhere, ever, so you'd have to give me a price to consider. Keep in mind that there are different kinds of them. I'm specifically looking for the ones that open the locking slatwall/pegboard racks at places like Target or Walmart. If you *do* get one to sell to me, I'd have to ask that you try it out to make sure that it's the correct one before shipping it out to me. I'd have to try it out myself before finalizing as well. But yeah, I'd definitely be interested in having the real thing.

This caught my interest as well.

You're trying to get one too? You can actually buy them online from security outlets if you own and operate a business, but you have to buy like the whole package.. with the racks or wire included, and they only sell them in bulk at like 500 units minimum. You have to provide proof that you're a business owner, like your Tax ID number and certificate of incorporation and all that. I'm sure that any old schmuck out there could create a fake business and incorporate it online in order to buy one, but the process just sounds exhausting. I'd much rather pay for one and put some money into the pocket of someone that actually deserves it, such as Average Joe Walmart Slave who makes $7.15 per hour and is forced to work unpaid overtime with the shittiest benefits package on the planet, ya dig?

I can probably help.
PM me a picture (search the net) whatever. for the actual tool you are looking for.
There are a few different ones out there.....
-
I'm really not sure if this is the correct one because these are newer model devices, but there's a picture of the key for the new ones here (larger picture toward the bottom on the right-hand side labeled "Magnet Hand Key"):

Keep in mind, those are for the newer models. They still work on the old ones, but if you come across one that doesn't have the smaller cylinder protruding from the end, that'll work just as well because Walmart is too "budget efficient" (cheap) to upgrade to the newer model.

This work?

ehhh?

Does it have 4 bar magnets (2 sets of 2 with about 1/4" of space between them) on the face that's laying on the lock?

Yes.

That sounds like it should work. As I mentioned, I'd have to ask that you actually test it out on one of the racks at Walmart to make sure that it works on the model that they utilize. I need one that will open their locks specifically. You don't have to actually steal anything, or even take anything off of the rack. Just casually place it on top of the lock and see if the lock will slide to the unlocked position. If it's a go, then we can work out a price that works for both of us.
-
Well I do not have the thing in my possesion, and would have to pay to get it.
So if I decided to pick it up, it sounds like I would just list it then.
Im not gonna get stuck with the thing, they aren't $5.
-
If I were in your shoes, I'd go ahead and just buy it. Even if *I* don't end up buying it, I'm sure you'll make a pretty substantial profit on resale. Just out of curiosity, how much are *you* paying for it?
-
We will find out; hopefully by next week. I talked to my guy again yesterday.
I "ordered" a couple of them (as many as his people can get)
....So we shall see what comes of this.
Yeah, im sure I would have no problem vending these, that is why I told him to "order" me more then 1.
I'll let you know once they are in my hand.

Awesome. Shoot me a message on the Road when they come in. Thanks brother.

If this guy pulls through for me (which he has in the past) you'll have first dibs.
For sure.

Much obliged.

Interested in some sketchy ass shit up in this thread.

I used to work at a store that used those; can't help with a key or unlocking the wall pegs, but there are a couple of tricks to the spider wraps.
If it's on loosely enough to get underneath the main body of the spider wrap then you can manually release the locking mechanism, not sure how to explain it better, but if you look at one you can probably figure it out.
Also, when the spider wrap is on too tightly the lock will sometimes jam, what we would do is get a can of electronics duster, turn the can upside down and spray the super-cooled liquid directly in to the body of the spider wrap. The cold would slow down the chemical reaction in the battery enough to cause the battery to temporarily go dead. We would then cut the cord and remove the battery before it warmed up enough to power the alarm. If I recall correctly the battery was only held in place by a single phillips screw. If you don't want to risk taking out the battery then you can at lease get some distance before it goes off.
Although I've never tired it you could also use a wire stripper and a peace of wire with alligator clips to bridge the connection, allowing you to cut the cable without breaking the electrical circuit.
Or for that matter, a lot of times the stores will have trouble getting replacement batteries, so a good portion of the spider wraps might be dead. The older style that we had had an indicator light on it that would blink; if it wasn't blinking then the battery was dead and you can cut it without any issues.
Something else we figured out is that if you shake the security tab (like they put on clothing) while going through the door it wouldn't set off the alarm. The only thing we could figure is that by moving it quickly enough the Doppler shift would throw the system out of whack.

Thanks for diggin up this thread.. I was just looking for it!
MrMcFeelyMD - Contact me please. I have just got a couple in stock.
I have not tested them myself yet (but will), but I want to be sure that you are still interested before I list them.
Anyone else interested? let me know via PM I will make a listing.

That's some pretty informative info there Draco... I'll definitely be trying some of those out. The alligator clip wire on the spider wire idea sounds pretty sensible. I honestly can't believe that I hadn't thought of something along those lines.
Let me ask you this though... since you have experience with spider wire, do you know if the alarm sounds if the wire is pulled too tightly? For example, if you put too much tension on the wire, does it pull a pin or something out of the main body that causes the alarm to sound? A lot of the products at my local Walmart are haphazardly wrapped with a lot of slack in the wire, and I'm certain that they could be slipped right off of the products' packaging if enough tension could be applied to slip it over one of the corners.

I work in a Large Re-Tail outlet that all use the same de-tagger, often used on handbags £300> ALL items of clothes, watches etc
TJX Europe.. but in the UK.. I have access to a hand held de-tagger. Its about the size of a large remote, one click and the tag is removed. I also have re-pricers, they insert a ticket of your choice or one youve changed and re-ticket the item, its exactly how we do it when we process it in the backroom when all the stock comes in, me and my friends make a nice amount off doing it anyway, working there also helps 8)

The only way to trigger it is to press the testing button on the bottom or to cut the cables. If you were to pull it so tightly that the cables came out; but you'd probably break whatever it was wrapping first. Those things would get way over tightened all the time, which is part of the reason we would have to cut them. If they're loose enough to force the product through then no reason not to ;)

You can buy unlockers for just about any of the inventory control tags from the forums at Zoklet.

I used to work security for a Target. You definitely need the key to get anything off of a locked peg hook. For the spider-wrap, just take the item outside the store and cut it at your house/car/whatever. The spider-wrap MAY set off the door alarms, but they really don't matter. They can't stop you if you set off the door alarms. The Target I worked at never had the door alarms on anyways because they would go off all the time.
For the peg-hook locks, we had guys that would just rip the hole peg off the wall and take it out with them. My advice if you are going to do any of these activities are to do it during a busy time of the day (4-7pm), and do all of your risky in-store activities in the food aisles. They don't have cameras on the soup aisle. Just ask if you need any more hints/tips.

Well I just got back from Big Box Mart. I was there testing The StopLok aka Peghole unlocker.
It works like a CHARM!!! Now it obviously does not work on the Spider Wraps at least I do not know how to use it, BUT it DOES also work on those solid plastic boxes that have a slide button on the front.
I have video of testing it on the Pegboard since that is where this conversation started. On my way out I saw one of the solid plastic boxes with the slide release on top and tested that real quick. No video of that, you are going to have to take my word for it.
Im working on uploading the video right now and then I'll post it here. Then I'll create a listing.
Thanks guys.
